Kitware Job Posting: Open-Source Developers for Digital Libraries, Bioinformatics, and Information Visualization

Kitware, Inc. is actively seeking talented software professionals to work as PHP/Web Developers and/or project lead for our open-source MIDAS system (http://www.kitware.com/products/midas.html).

Candidates will create, develop and improve leading edge imaging software solutions in the context of an open-source and highly collaborative development model. By joining our team you will participate in a dynamic work environment with exceptionally talented co-workers committed to high quality development practices; and collaborate with esteemed researchers from around the world by:

  • helping to shape the functional requirements;
  • investigating and using Cloud technologies;
  • participating in design and code reviews;
  • mentoring other developers;
  • assisting in feasibility analysis and estimation; and
  • contributing to and leading government and commercial proposals.

Qualified candidates will have 4 or more years of web development experience; 2 or more years AMP (Apache, MySQL, PHP) experience; a bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field; and solid experience with HTML, JavaScript, CSS and OO programming. Experience in working with PHP frameworks such as CakePHP is also a plus. This is an excellent opportunity for you to contribute your knowledge of: PostgreSQL; cloud infrastructures; test-driven development processes; and Git, memcache, C++ and Python.

Kitware team members enjoy our small company environment, flexibility in work assignments, and the high levels of independence and responsibility. Besides a great work environment, our comprehensive benefits package includes flexible working hours, six weeks paid time off, a computer hardware budget, 401(k), medical insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, flexible spending account (FSA), life insurance, short- and long-term disability, visa processing, a generous compensation plan (that compensates employees for all hours worked – not just the first 40), bonus, and free coffee, drinks and snacks.

The informatics and digital library experts would be hired into our North Carolina office, located in downtown Carrboro, within one mile of the UNC, Chapel Hill campus.

Please email your cover letter and resume to jobs@kitware.com for immediate consideration.
