Objective

A difficult problem in image-guided therapy is to be able to overlay pre-operative plannign with intra-operative imaging for surgical guidance. In this project we implement an algorithm to do that in the case of prostate surgery. We do that through biophysical simulation of the intra-operative tissue dynamics and registration on top of the intra-operative US image. Our goal is to develop a module which taking a set of artificially deformed prostate volumes extracted from MRI infers the deformation modes and uses them to register the planning over the US intra-op images.

Approach, Plan

We have a prototype version of the algorithm in Python, the idea is to assess the interactive needs and plugging it into Slicer.

Progress

After careful discussion in the IGT breakout and interaction with Clare Tempany, we devised how to present results for the surgeons performing image guided biopsies. We were able to obtain results in this format. The next step is to develop a slicer module that can perform this work within the 3D Slicer platform.

Delivery Mechanism

  1. Slicer Module
    1. Extension -- loadable
