Discussion

  • Steve proposed to use DCM4che as a DICOM communicator (open source) to replicate a PACS and allow the group to test query-retrieve, storage,...It will be an end-to-end prototype of what the clinical system would look like. It will be quick to set up because it does not require any authorization from the Radiology department and there is no policy issues involved because there will be no sensitive clinical data in it. Randy suggested to used the BIRN data that had been deidentified by Karl. Those data are IRB approved to be shared with other researchers.
    • DCM4che is used as a research PACS at CHB. It is located in the demilitarized zone. It works mainly like the clinical PACS.
    • Once the prototype system is up and running, the group will show it to the different IT and Radiology Departments to get their blessing.
    • The operating system will be the same as i2b2 (ubuntu 9.10, open source, LINUX)
