  • Minimum degree and field of specialized knowledge required to perform the job:

Required: High School Diploma or GED, Preferred: Two years college or equivalent work experience

  • Minimum years of experience required in the field:

Two years administrative/office experience required, three years preferred. Additional education may be substituted for years of experience. Experience working with the various software applications listed below is required.

  • Characteristic duties and responsibilities:

(Duty class I)

    • Prepare expense reports for business trips
    • Coordinate special projects and events, office activities and committee meetings
    • Locate and compile information and format reports, graphs, tables, records and other sources of information
    • Assemble and categorize facts and figures for written computation and calculations
    • Use various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages, to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports
    • Maintain records through filing, retrieval, retention, storage, compilation, coding, updating and destruction
    • Type routine correspondence and reports from dictation or handwritten copy using a personal computer
    • Operate a personal computer to access e-mail, electronic calendars, and other basic office support software
    • Complete various request forms for office supplies and equipment as directed

    • Organize a publication list in a computer database
    • Write summary reports of laboratory projects using document material provided by laboratory members
    • Use a personal computer to prepare manuscripts, grant proposals, statistical reports, tables, and charts using knowledge of scientific, medical, literary, or other technical terms
    • Process and track purchase orders
    • Monitor monthly expenditure statements for budgets and prepare documents required to maintain balanced accounts for review and approval by supervisor
