This RFA seeks to stimulate research that will lead to new or enhanced ways for imaging the rapid neural activation that is reflected in electrophysiological signals (e.g., action potentials, local field potentials, etc.), rather than signals generated by the sluggish hemodynamic response. Of particular interest are approaches that use non-invasive optical imaging of fast signals. Approaches that require dipole source localization will be considered non-responsive to this RFA.
