Job Posting for Post-doctoral Fellow:

The Surgical Planning Lab, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, has developed an oncology research tool to detect subtle growth in brain tumors from a pair of MR images. The research tool is currently used by the Department of Neurosurgery for monitoring patients with benign meningiomas. We are looking for a Postdoc, starting before January 2009, who is interested in expanding the capabilities of this package. Funding for this project is secured for one year.

Duties:
• Develop an algorithm for fast and accurate segmentation of tumors
• Design new methods to measure the growth of other types of tumors, such as prostate cancer and metastasis.
• Derive time sensitive metrics for analyzing multiple time points.
• Allow user to interact with the tool through 3D visualization technology.
• Disseminate software by working with user community.

Successful applicants should have or soon receive a PhD in computer science or related field. The candidate should enjoy working in an inter-disciplinary team consisting of computer scientists, radiologists, neurosurgeons, and psychiatrists. We expect the candidate to be familiar with C++, VTK, ITK, Slicer, and have experience in the biomedical field.

The lab collaborates with groups within Brigham and Women's Hospital, with other researchers at the Harvard Medical School, with local universities such as Harvard and MIT, and with gifted clinicians, researchers, and engineers throughout the world. The Core Mission of the SPL is the extraction of medically relevant information from diagnostic imaging data.
