Harvard Translational Imaging Consortium Meeting Minutes May 12, 2009

In attendance:

  • Randy Gollub
  • Valerie Humblet
  • Clare Tempany
  • Simon Warfield
  • Laura Alice
  • Bob Lenkinski
  • Bill Hanlon
  • Gordon Harris
  • Yong Gao
  • Charles Guttmann
  • Bruce Rosen
  • Neil Rofsky

The group welcome a new member, Dr Charles Guttmann, Director of the Center for Neurological Imaging at BWH. Charles will be an active member of the consultation team, bringing expertise clinical neuroscience, imaging and image analysis.

1. Update on imaging consultation requests

  • Valerie and Randy gave an update on the ongoing consultation requests. All the investigators have been contacted by at least one imaging expert and the collaborative work is in process.

2. Educational program

  • Valerie will organize a mini-retreat in June so the group can discuss the educational program and the evaluation plan.
  • In the mean time, Valerie and Jeff will meet with Michelle Wright from Catalyst Central to discuss the implementation of the program.

3. Administrative supplement update

  • Randy sent the final version of the 5 pages proposal that will be sent to the NCCR to request an administrative supplement for the Catalyst. This proposal is based on the imaging informatics project the consortium has been working for a couple of months.
  • Randy was able in a very short time to get letters of support from the Heads of Radiology and their IT staff. They also agree to be part of an advisory board to guide the development of the project. Everybody agreed that is was a huge step forward and that the group should seek for additional funding for this project.

4. Imaging informatics

  • Bruce insisted that it is very important to prioritize our work. Having an XNAT ready and get an outcome that shows that research is easier/faster will be something very valuable to present to Catalyst Central.
    • Yong has finished the first XNAT customization and is ready to run a prototype with real data.
    • In order to decide what project should be tested first, Simon proposed to write an outline of each project and a timetable so Yong could choose the project that will have the most impact in the least amount of time. The outline must include a description of the technology, the software that need to be installed etc.
  • The possibility to use the TIMC software for Stephan's project (COG) has been discussed again.
    • Bill gave Valerie and Yong a demonstration of the software. It is perfect to capture RESist measurements and post them online.
    • Simon asked if it would be possible to use the COG grid infrastructure and put data back in their system. Bill confirmed that it is possible with the TIMC software.
    • A next step could be to try to connect XNAT with TIMC.
  • The group agreed that there is a need for more time dedicated to the informatics project, the Tuesday t-con is a good time to provide general information but another weekly or bi-weekly meeting should be set up with a more formal leadership and more structure. Bruce suggested that Shawn Murphy should be involved in these meetings. Shawn, Randy and Yong already meet Monday bi-weekly, it could be the start of the structure.
    • The members who should be included in the informatics sub-group are Jeff, Bill, Yong, Gordon Harris, Ron, Simon, Randy and Charles. Valerie will also be part of the meetings so she can write the minutes. Anybody else interested in being part of the group is welcome, Valerie will set up a meeting. Someone from BIDMC should join the group in order to have all the institutions represented.
    • Randy will ask Doug MacFadden (Catalyst informatics) that Yong be allowed to attend the Catalyst IT team meetings regularly, as our liaison to what is going on in the bigger picture.

5. ACRIN meeting

  • The CTSA Imaging Working Group is planning on holding an educational session and a working lunch on Wednesday, September 30, 2009 in conjunction with the ACRIN meeting (September 30-October 2, 2009) at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City in Arlington, VA. Meetings of the CTSA Imaging Informatics and Cores/Education subgroups are also being considered for the same day.
  • The group will decide who should attend the meeting, especially the Informatics and Education subgroups.

6. JIRA update

  • Valerie gave an update on the development of the JIRA system as a web-based tool to track consultations. The minutes of the meetings are posted on this wiki page.
  • The JIRA system for the imaging group should be launch around July 30. Prior to the live launch, there will be training sessions for the triage person and the consultants.
