- define some software infrastructure and conventions for atlases
- Providing unique identifiers per structure within any atlas
- Providing a mapping from structure to unique color
- Providing mappings from local identifiers to names/IDs in official ontologies, and common synonyms
- Developing and representing structural and functional relationships
- Developing tools to perform cross-atlas indexing
- means for co-registering and overlaying experimental data (parametric maps)
- interactive tools for displaying labels in various nomenclatures on mouseover
- tools to do point-based and region-based indexing
- tools to display and navigate hierarchical relationships between structures, superstructures and substructures
