Key Investigators

  • UNC: Marc Niethammer
  • BWH: Sylvain Bouix

Objective

  • A prototype software to create population of synthetic 3D objects for shape analysis testing and evaluation.

Approach, Plan

  • Artifical shape changes in the form of: global volume preserving transforms, "dimples and bulges", boundary noise.
  • Automatic population creation mimicking real data variability.

Progress

  • First version of boundary noise creation done.
  • Affine transforms for population creation.

Progress during programming week

  • Created full pipeline to create synthetic shapes with deformable warps based on the following steps:
  • Unbiased atlas building from a normal population.
  • Creation of a mean shape.
  • Introduction of randomized dimples and bumps both parametrically and non-parametrically.
  • Creation of population with these changes from inverse deformation fields (from the atlas).
  • Wrote a viewer to inspect population.
  • Currently a mixture of C++/matlab and shell scripts. To be streamlined ...

Delivery Mechanism

To early to tell. Either a downloadable set of images, or an open source software suite.
