3D Slicer, is a free, open source software package for visualization and image analysis. 3D Slicer is natively designed to be available on multiple platforms, including Windows, Linux and Mac Os X.

The goal of the user group meeting is to bring together current and prospective 3D Slicer users and developers to discuss of 3D Slicer's present and future as a radiation therapy software application.

Meeting summary

  • If you are interested in using or improving 3D Slicer for radiotherapy then please fill out our survey: http://bit.ly/q3515X
  • About 20 people attended. The questions of the audience suggested that currently the primary interest is how to import, display, and register structure sets and dose maps in 3D Slicer.
  • Specific suggestions from the community
    • Visualization of deformation vector fields
    • Visualization of deformation quality (e.g. Jacobian)
    • Contour propagation tools, contour comparison tools
    • Contour naming
    • DVH tools, statistics on min, max, mean dose, hot spots
    • Tools to assess deformable registration quality (Dice coeff, Tanimoto coeff)
    • CUDA acceleration in extensions
    • Support for data exchange with RTPLAN elements
    • Coordinate with ITC and CERR communities
    • Better documentation of programming interfaces
  • 3D Slicer radiotherapy related projects:
Presentation of 3D Slicer features and roadmap for radiotherapy
