  • Doug MacFadden (Catalyst Informatics)
  • John Speziale (Director radiology informatics CHB)
  • Rudolph Pienaar

  • Steve Piper
  • Dan Nigrin (CIO Children's)
  • Randy Gollub
  • Scott Ogawa (CTO Children's)
  • Valerie Humblet

1. Presentation of project by Randy

  • Randy presented : Harvard Catalyst integration of XNAT and i2b2 clinical research chart. She gave an overview of the different institutions involved in this project (BIRN: data sharing inter-institution, XNAT: data sharing mono-institution).

2. Presentation of SHRINE by Doug

  • Doug explained what is the SHRINE project and referred to the link on the Catalyst website:http://catalyst.harvard.edu/shrine/. He also explained the similarities between projects and how SHRINE would be integrated in the whole project.

3. Technical update by Rudolph

  • Rudolph gave an update on the program consistsing of sending data from the Martinos Center to CHB in a secure way.
  • He will need to know more on Children's policy to go forward (secure access connection, how to facilitate sharing)

4. Future needs by Simon

  • There is a need for policy setting to move patient data across institutions.
    • When sharing data on a patient to patient base, it is crucial to be able to identify the patient (eg: pediatric patient imaged at CHB and MGH, so far the data are transfer on a CD between institutions). Of course patient's consent to share data must be obtained.
    • For the moment, there is no direct connection between the Children's research PACS (based in Waltham) and the tumor imaging metrics core (TIMC). In collaboration with Bill Hanlon from TIMC, they are working on establishing a secure LAN to LAN connection.

5. Recommendations from Dan Nigrin

  • Anonymization is a very important issue for data sharing at a national level. It is crucial to be compliant with HIPAA regulations.
  • We need a price on the technology involved (hardware, infrastructure for automated data analysis that requires large resources computer wize, people time)
  • A policy on sharing data must be clearly defined.

6.Follow-up

  • Next time, this meeting will be integrated with the Catalyst IT meeting that takes place on Friday, April 7, 9:30-10:30 am in the Countway Library.
