Harvard Translational Imaging Consortium Meeting Minutes April 21, 2009

In attendance:

  • Gordon Williams
  • Randy Gollub
  • Valerie Humblet
  • Yong Gao
  • Clare Tempany
  • Ron Kikinis
  • Stephan Voss
  • Gordon Harris
  • Jeff Yapp
  • Annick Van den Abbeelle

1. Educational program

  • Jeff gave an overview of the educational program he developed according to all the previous discussions on the topic and the feedback we got during the CTSA workshop meeting in Batimore (March 29-31).
  • Here a a list of other topics that could be included in the proposal:
    • Post processing, 3D visualization tools
    • Training specific for radiologist residents: 3D visualization tools, acquisition parameters, use of imaging in clinical trials
    • Specificity of pediatric protocols. Importance to educate the community about the difference between kids and adult. People reviewing pediatric protocols would probably be a very good target audience
    • Cross-institution training on MRI safety. Valerie will create a working group with the technologists in charge of the MRI safety training at the different sites, the goal is to come with a uniform training for pre-use certification
    • Data management
  • Gordon Williams asked Jeff to put together a slide with 4-5 bullets describing the education program with a specific timeline. This slide will be presented during the Catalyst budget meeting on April 27.

2. Educational program to be offered by the national CTSC Imaging Working Group at RSNA

  • Randy submitted a proposal to the RSNA for an educational program to be offered by the national CTSC Imaging Working Group at the RSNA meeting in Chicago (11/29-12/04).
    • The title is: Quantitative medical imaging for clinical research and practice.
    • The course organizers are: Randy, Jeff, Valerie, Brian Reynolds (Duke), Katarzyna J. Macura (Johns Hopkins) and Dan Sullivan (Duke)

3. Update on imaging consultation requests

  • Valerie gave an update on the ongoing consultation requests. All the investigators have been contacted by at least one imaging expert and the collaborative work is in process.
  • Valerie will make a couple of slides about the different types of consultation the group received so far. It will be useful when one gives a presentation about the imaging consortium.

4. Proposal for funding of imaging projects

  • Clare and Gordon Williams worked on the proposal. A key element of the proposal would be the description of the reviewing process. The scientific reviews must be done across institutions by peer-review people who do content review for the PCIR. About 100 individuals are listed.
  • The proposal must present a framework for the budget with a cap and a range of distribution ( number of scan per modality, distribution among institutions etc).

5. Budget Y02

  • The meeting is scheduled for Monday April 27. Gordon Williams and Bruce Rosen will present the budget for the imaging consortium.

6. Future presentation of our program to the COC

  • The meeting was supposed to be on April 28, it is rescheduled to the end of May or end of June.

7. Update on medical imaging bioinformatics

  • Yong is meeting with different groups in order to evaluate the specific and commons needs regarding data management.
  • The next step is to complete the discussion with the different groups and write a summary for the long term and short term goals. Valerie will work with Yong to set up a WIKI page to organize the needs of the different groups.
  • It would be nice to have a XNAT demo to show people what XNAT can offer in term of data management.
