Harvard Translational Imaging Consortium Meeting Minutes April 27, 2010

1. Consultations

• Randy did a couple of consultations with trainees needing help with a K grant application. One of the trainees is at McLean, it is a good opportunity to reach out to them and make more connections. Valerie and Randy are going to McLean on May 14th to present the Harvard Catalyst Imaging Consortium.

2. mi2b2 Advisory Board meeting

• The meeting took place on April 26 th, representatives from the different institutions were present to discuss policy related issues. There was a really good feedback from leadership at CHB and BWH. One suggestion was to schedule meetings more regularly, they want to be very involved in the process.
• Ro Pettigrew who is the Director of the NIMIB was invited to join the meeting. He expressed his interest in the project and asked how it could be a template for the single patient identifier at the national level.

3. PCIR reviews

• Following the discussion during April 13th t-con, Randy contacted Faith Fortune and from their point of view everything is going smoothly with the PCIR reviews.

4. RSNA 2010

• The RSNA Radiology Informatics Committee (RIC) meeting approved all three courses to be presented at the RSNA 2010 Annual Meeting.
  • 3D Interactive Visualization of DICOM Images for Radiology Applications, Monday, 11/29 from 2:30-4:00pm
  • Quantitative Medical Imaging for Clinical Research and Practice, Tuesday, 11/30 from 10:30am-12:00pm
  • Didactic session schedule tbd

5. Summer education program

• The research nurses and research coordinators are interested in getting some basic training medical imaging. At MGH they expressed their interest in learning basic practical details about the different modalities and procedure (contrast agent, radiation, fastening, time to scan the patient, safety issues etc).
  • Jeff already has some material ready
  • Bob mentioned that it would be valuable to ask at other institutions if they are interested in learning about the basics of the imaging technics.
  • Jeff suggested that offering technical consultations would be very valuable. In the new version of the Harvard Catalyst website, we will be able to customize the imaging part. We could post template with the basics of the imaging technics and also a link to a request for technical consultation.
• Randy met with Sue Gabrielli at MIT and the MIT community would like to have some training brought to them: Slicer, Freesurfer, physiological monitor, Simon's software kit.
  • Sue has a new toolkit for connectivity for fMRI (http://web.mit.edu/swg/software.htm), she would like to give some tutorial at Countway.

6. May 18, tentative face-to-face meeting

• May 18 we will have a face-to-face meeting. The agenda will be focused on OSIRIX and the next hands-on workshop we want to offer.

• 7. Multicenter clinical trial

• The sub-group met for the first time on Wednesday 4/27. Minutes will be posted in a dedicated section.
• Randy suggested to contact Karl Helmer who has a lot of expertise in cross-site calibration for MRI acquisition.
