  • Charles Guttmann
  • Todd Perlstein
  • Gordon Harris
  • Simon Warfield
  • Jeff Yap
  • Wendy Plensiak
  • Mark Anderson
  • Clare Tempany
  • Bob Lenkinski
  • Randy Gollub
  • Ron Kikinis
  • Gordon Williams
  • Yong Gao

1. Administrative announcements

  • Valerie will ask Catalyst Central to get access to a conference call number for the Tuesday t-con when webex is not needed.
  • Valerie contacted HMS IT department to get more information on the different electronic rooms available at Countway. They would be very useful when the Consortium starts his series of hands-on workshops.

2. Update on imaging consultation requests

  • Simon and Bob are helping a PI at CHB for the design of ASL studies. The PI does not have an ecommons ID yet so she was no able to access the webform. Valerie will fill her info in JIRA.
  • Mark spent a lot of time uploading the data manually for the XNAT central consultation at BWH. It is essential that the time spent preparing for a consultation is collected in JIRA. One can also use the comment box to detail how the work is divided.

3. HMS medical education day

  • HMS medical education day is scheduled on 10/27. The Imaging Consortium decided to present a poster to highlight what we are doing: quantitative biomarkers etc.
  • Jeff, as Director of Education will be in charge of that poster.

4. Software tools for DCE-MRI

  • Valerie will set up meetings with the different members using DCE-MRI software tools to start building a catalogue.
  • Once we have a couple of softwares that can be shared, a demo will be organized for the imaging consortium in one of the electronic classroom at Countway.
  • Ron and his team work on the integration of Slicer.

5. Call for cardiovascular paper

  • Last week, Tom Ulrich from Catalyst Central forwarded us an e-mail from the editor of the Journal of Cardiovascular Translational Research. The Journal of Cardiovascular Translational Research is putting together an issue focused on imaging in cardiovascular research and clinical practice. They are looking for review articles or original papers that illustrate how translational research is leading to new diagnostics and treatments. It would also be very important if a group would be willing to write a white paper on imaging technologies as they relate to translational medicine.
    • That request was then forwarded to Todd Perlstein who will ask among his colleagues who would be interested in co-writing that type of review.
    • Todd will also contact the editor of the journal to learn more about the requirements.
  • The group agreed that writing a review once a year would be a great way to share their expertise. It is also a great way to get better known locally by engaging people who are not from the Catalyst.
    • Valerie will investigate the Journal for Clinical Translational Science (official journal of the CTSA and APOR: association of patient-oriented research).

6. Slicer for demo at ACRIN/RSNA

  • Jeff, Ron and Wendy are working with the DCE-MRI data sent by Dr Macura (Johns Hopkins). They will have their second meeting on Thursday.

7. Informatics update

  • Valerie, Yong, Wendy and Randy met on Monday 08/10 with Shawn Murphy to talk about the secondary use of clinical data.
    • Valerie and Randy continue to collect data about the PACS systems and the scanners. Their goal is also to localize pockets or very high quality data.
    • Sometimes it is hard to find the right information about a scan just by looking at the billing codes. WE need to learn where to look for more details.
    • They will meet with members of the different institutions to learn about the workflow from the doctor's order to the scan. Gordon Harris will be the contact for MGH, Clare for BWH and Bob for BIDMC).
    • Yong and Wendy will have to learn about the capabilities of the PACS systems, it will be very valuable once the XNAT instances are installed.
  • Wendy and Yong have made a lot of progress on the XNAT implementation.
    • Yong is working with Brad Dickerson lab at MGH while Wendy works with Rudolph Pienaar at CHB (Ellen Grant lab).
    • For both project, the first step is to manage a large amount of legacy data. The first challenge is to create a meaningful mapping between the data in the lab and the XNAT representation. It is quite straightforward for Rudolph's case but it might be more difficult for Brad's case.
    • Yong expressed is interest in going to Wash U to spend a couple of days with the team who developed XNAT to learn more about the codes etc.

8. Regulatory update

  • Sabune Winkler and Barbara Brier gave a very well received “Champions of Change” presentation on the process of creating the IRB master reliance agreement for over 200 people at the CTSA Research Management KFC meeting in Washington, DC, on June 23. Here is a copy of the presentation.
