Mission Statement

Dear Colleagues, I think completing this section with a succinct sentence or two would be a good exercise in finding our common vision and guiding our subsequent work. I put it on the agenda for our next meetings. Randy
Our ideas so far:

  • Provide expert consultation to the CTSC and the affiliated academic medical centers about policies for medical imaging related issues that are causing obstacles for clinical translational investigators.

External imaging core collaborative effort Text of recent email:

  • "Congratulations on being the recipient institution of a National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) bestowed Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) for 2008. The CTSA program creates an academic home for the discipline of clinical and translational science at institutions across the country. This consortium currently has 38 academic health centers located throughout the nation; by 2012, 60 such institutions will be linked together to energize the discipline of clinical and translational science.

A major goal of the CTSA initiative is to encourage member institutions to form collaborative alliances in efforts to exchange ideas, thus expediting the progression of research from bench top to clinic. The Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), in conjunction with the Duke Translational Medicine Institute's (DTMI) Imaging Core, has made it a priority to stimulate and facilitate quantitative imaging. Increased awareness and use of quantitative imaging will benefit clinical practice. Supporting the CTSA is one venue by which the RSNA/DTMI can motivate the radiology research culture and help improve the imaging research infrastructure.

The RSNA is pleased to provide support for this effort by coordinating CTSA imaging working group bi-monthly conference calls, meetings, periodic site reports, exchange of information about problems and solutions, and development of subcommittees, all of which serve as a model for the CTSA efforts.

Bi-monthly CTSA working group conference calls are held on the 3rd Monday of even months, at 4pm EASTER time. The schedule for the remainder of 2008 follows:

June 23 (only 4th Monday scheduled)

August 18

October 20

December 15

Your institution is encouraged to participate in these CTSA imaging working groups. If there is someone else that you believe would be more appropriate as contact person for such CTSA-site activity, please forward this email or let Joe Koudelik (jkoudelik@rsna.org) at the RSNA know.

Please contact Daniel Sullivan, MD (dsullivan@rsna.org) for any CTSA imaging working group questions you may have. Thank you for your support and participation.

Sent on behalf of Daniel Sullivan, MD, RSNA Science Advisor
